END
I have the honour to refer to your letter No.1270/
1924, dated 23rd August, in regard to the proposed new
coaches and engines for the Kowloon Canton Railway.
2. As requested we have discussed the question of the
design of the new stock with the Chief Mechanical Engineer,
Dr. Lambert, and have prepared a preliminary design and
detail specification of the proposed engines, copies of
which have been handed to r. Lambert. We have also prepared
a draft specification for the rolling stock but we propose
to wait until the design of the stock on order under Indent
No.106, dated 19th March, has been finally approved before
sending you copies of the designs and specification. We may
state, however, that the designs generally are well advanced,
and we are now in a position to invite tenders for locomotive or rolling stock on receipt of an indent.
3. We should like to place on record our obligations
to Mr. Lambert for the considerable amount of time he has
devoted to this matter and for the assistance he has so
kindly rendered.
The Colonial Secretary,
Fong Kong.
I have, &c,
(Sd.) F. G. Bradstreet,
for Crown Agents.
